The Obligation of Performing Congregational Prayer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, his companions and all those who follow his guide.

Allah Almighty says in His Noble Book: "Perform the prayer, pay the zakat and bow down with those who bow down" (Al-Baqarah: 43), which "When you are among them and lead them in prayer, let a group of them stand up with you and take their weapons" (An-Nisa: 102).

If Allah has enjoined congregational prayer even in times of fear, it is even more obligatory in times of security. It was authentically reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he said: “Whoever hears the call to prayer and does not come to it, there will be no prayer for him, unless he has an excuse.”

In the two Sahihs: “I almost ordered that the prayer be established, then I would order a man to lead the people, then go with men carrying bundles of wood to those who do not attend the prayer and burn their houses on them.” “Whoever wants to meet Allah tomorrow as a Muslim, let him observe those prayers in which the call to prayer is made. Indeed, Allah has prescribed for your Prophet the ways of guidance, and they are from the ways of guidance. If you pray in your homes as one who stays prays in his house, you will have abandoned the Sunnah of your Prophet, and if you abandon the Sunnah of your Prophet, you will have gone astray.” We have seen it in such a way that no one has deviated from it except a notorious hypocrite or a sick person. A man would be brought supported between two men until he was forced to stand in a row."

There are many hadiths that express this meaning. This is why it is obligatory for all men to perform the congregational prayer in the houses of Allah where the call to prayer is given. The state or those responsible for public order should not allow anyone, whether they are merchants or traders, to evade this obligation, because this is in accordance with the religious evidence and helps them to fulfill what Allah has prescribed for them concerning congregational prayer in the mosques. This is also in accordance with what Allah has described about the believers in His saying: "The believing men and believing women are allies to one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong." (At-Tawbah: 71)

I ask Allah to grant all Muslims success in what pleases Him, to grant them understanding in His religion, to guide the leaders of the Muslims to what pleases Him and benefits His servants, and to guide the writer, Dr. AR, to understanding his religion and adhering to it, and to protect us and all Muslims from the trials and temptations of Sh

May Allah send His blessings and peace upon His servant and Messenger, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family, his companions and all those who follow them in righteousness until
