Question: You call for monotheism, so what is your evidence for the word of monotheism? Where did it originate?
Answer: The answer is that there are many evidences from the Book of Allah, the Almighty, and the Sunnah of His Messenger, peace be upon him.
Monotheism means: the oneness of Allah, meaning the belief that He is One with no partner. Among the verses indicating this is His saying, the Exalted: “And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me” [Adh-Dhariyat: 56] and His saying, the Exalted: “And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, ‘There is no deity except Me, so worship Me’” [Al-Anbiya: 25]. There are many verses with this meaning.
As for the hadiths, among them is what is confirmed in Sahih Bukhari from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them, that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said to Mu’adh, may Allah be pleased with him, when he sent him to Yemen: “Call them to testify that there is no deity but Allah” (narrated by Bukhari in his Sahih). In Sahih Muslim, from Tariq ibn Ashyam al-Ashja’i, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: “Whoever testifies that there is no deity but Allah and disbelieves in what is worshipped besides Allah, his wealth and blood are protected, and his reckoning is with Allah” (narrated by Muslim). This explicitly states: “testifies that there is no deity but Allah,” indicating that this is the meaning of “There is no deity but Allah.”
Among the hadiths is what is confirmed in Sahih Muslim from Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them, that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: “Islam is built on five: to testify that there is no deity but Allah” (narrated by Muslim). This is an explanation of his saying in another narration: “Islam is built on five: the testimony that there is no deity but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah” (narrated by Muslim). There are many hadiths with this meaning. And Allah is the Grantor of success.
